Satellite Flight are a rock band from Cincinnati, OH consisting of Chris Vondrell, Chris Tillery, Eric Darling and Travis Wells. Satellite Flight are starting to make waves around the Ohio area so we were delighted when they agreed to be interviewed by Song Revelation. Read the entire interview below where the guys discuss, amongst other things, who they would like to collaborate with given a chance, their creative process for creating a track and what it’s like living in Cincinnati!
Q: If you could use a tagline of less than 20 words to describe your music and who you are what would it be?
High-powered rock and roll with pop influences.
Q: What is your musical background?
This is what separates Satellite Flight from other bands. Most bands are a group of musicians who love the same music. Each member of SF comes from a different musical background ranging from pop to metal to classics to alternative.
Q: How have the last 12 months been for you?
Amazing! We’ve been the supporting act from artists ranging from 80’s legends such as Sebastian Bach to modern acts such Hinder and Buckcherry to name just a few. We’ve also performed on the Jagermeister Tour and at the Gorilla Musicfest along with recording our debut EP “Red Carpet”.
Q: Who inspires you musically?
Life. We truly write from our hearts. Personal experiences influence every lyric that you hear in our music.
Q: Which modern day artists do you look up to?
Foo Fighters, Paramore, Hinder, Asking Alexandria, Rise Against.
Q: Is there anyone you would like to collaborate or gig with?
We would love to either collaborate with a legend such as Steven Tyler or Dave Grohl, or with an artist from another genre such as a female soul artist or classical performer to show that rock has no boundaries.
Q: What songs are you listening to at the moment?
That’s a tough one considering we love so many. Rock is making a big comeback statistically over the past 2 years and we’re just happy to be part of it alongside so many great bands.
Q: What is your creative process for creating a track?
Someone usually brings a concept to the table whether it be lyrics, a melody, a riff, or a beat. Then we lock ourselves in the studio and hammer it out.
Q: What’s more important, melody or lyrics?
Every moving piece is important but the melody is what makes a song.
Q: Where are you based?
Q: What’s it like being where you’re from?
It’s tough because our scene here is outdated. We’re a very modern band and we like to cross barriers with our style, stage show, and sound, which catch some people off guard. It has however built us a fanbase of younger people who are reaching for something new and exciting.
Q: What are you currently working on?
A follow up single to our EP “Red Carpet” along with a few music videos.
Q: What’s been the highlight of your career to date?
That’s tough because each member has their own, and we’re just getting started!
Q: What are you hoping to achieve in over the next 12 months?
World Domination!! Haha. This band is all about momentum. From the beginning we always said, “let’s never settle and always keep the momentum going”. What we’ve accomplished in less then 18 months is “mind-blowing” according to a local radio DJ. So what the next 12 months has in store for us can only be imagined.
Q: What do you do to relax?
Listen to music and joke around, we’re probably the funniest band you’ll meet.
Q: Where would your favourite holiday (vacation) be and why?
We love Chicago and LA. Europe is awesome too; rock and roll is by far the most dominant genre over there so it would be a cool experience as a band.
Q: If you could give a little piece of advice for new or aspiring musicians what would it be?
Never give up. People will tell you too. Society will tell you too. Never do.
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to let our readers know about?
Pay attention, we have some huge things coming up.
Editor’s Note: Satellite Flight are high-energy band with a deep sense of musicality. Make sure you check out their latest EP, “Red Carpet”, you’ll be impressed!
