Q: If you could use a tagline of less than 20 words to describe your music and who you are what would it be?

Inspirational sexy heartfelt passionate authentic happy emotional brilliant melodic pop rock soul connective

Q: What is your musical background?

I started writing songs and playing piano around 8 and I always sang from birth.  My background is mostly being a songwriter and poet and I sang in a lot of talent shows as well too when I was a teenager.

Q: How have the last 12 months been for you?

The past 12 months have been awesome overall.  Of course, there were ups and downs.  Released an amazing album ”Boundless Moments” in April 2013.  Released singles off the album before then.  This was my first time ever reaching bestseller categories on Amazon.  This was also a highlight as far as fan growth.  My fan base exceeded a million recently.  I finished 2 books, one poetry, one self-help.  The poetry book will be released later this year.  The past 12 months have also been great too in terms of getting more radio play.  This was my first time being featured in magazines.  More radio stations were also willing to play my music.  And this is my first time getting radio stations interviews and being invited to personally come out.  This was also my first time getting publishing deals, too date I have signed several publishing contracts.  This is my first time starting to get more national attention.  Coming up on June 4th, I will be performing live on Frankie Dee’s ”The Real Radio Show.” www.therealradioshow.com . And I’ve been invited to some Los Angeles stations as well too.  Really if I get more specific, all of this have happened in the past 5 months.  The 7 months prior to that, I experienced major rejection after rejection after rejection.  It was actually a very discouraging period in which giving up did come up as a temporary consideration.  But then I had to remind myself why I do the music.  And what comes to mind is that it’s for touching people and moving people.  And if only one person was touched and their lives impacted, then I’ve done my job.  So I continued to just focus on that and eventually now, everything is starting to turn around to where every time I turn around, there’s an opportunity.  I’m starting to get selected on a lot of things that I’m attempting.

Q: Who inspires you musically?

Maroon 5, Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, Pink, Beyoncé, The Rolling Stones, One Republic, John Legend, Lenny Kravitz

Q: What songs are you listening to at the moment?

Everything.  and I really mean that.  I like everything from rock to country to r &b to pop to hip-hop to folk and world music I like all music.

Q: What is your creative process for creating a track?

It varies.  Sometimes the whole song just comes to me while I’m sleeping or it hits my head.  Sometimes I will come up with the melody before the lyrics.  Other times I write lyrics and then put music to it.  It usually varies between those 3 things for me.  It’s all about capturing it when it comes and how it comes.

Q: What’s more important, melody or lyrics?

Neither is more important.  It depends on the song.  Some songs the melody stands out more and some songs the lyrics stand out more.  It’s like asking, what’s more important, your arms or your legs.  You want them both. If you are running, your legs are more important in that moment.  If you are pulling yourself up, then you arms are more important at that moment.  It varies.

Q: Where are you based?

Atlanta, but I frequent Los Angeles and New York.

Q: What are you currently working on?

I’m actually working on my next album that will be released in 2014 or 2015

Q: What’s been the highlight of your career to date?

The fan growth and all of the magazine / radio interviews that I have been getting.  It feels good to finally be appreciated.

Q: What are you hoping to achieve in over the next 12 months?

I would like to either win a Grammy or get Grammy nominated.  My album ”Boundless Moments” will be on the Grammy ballot for possible nomination.  That’s exciting.  I also would like to have a successful tour in 2014.  Since I have fans all over the world, it would be great to reach them all.  I would also like to have more commercial radio success so that my message is spread to as many people as possible.  Overall, I would like things to continue to grow.

Q: Do you have any gigs or shows that you’d like to tell us about?

Yes, I will be performing live and interviews on Frankie Dee’s ”The Real Radio Show” www.therealradioshow.com on June 4th in New York City.

Q: What do you do to relax?

I like bike riding, relaxing outdoors like in a park or by a beach, watch a good movie, make good conversation, write, play games, love going for scenic drives, almost anything.  I work hard but I play hard too.

Q: Where would your favourite holiday (vacation) be and why?

Favorite vacation would be Hawaii because I love the ocean and I love islands.

Q: If you could give a little piece of advice for new or aspiring musicians what would it be?

Do this because you love it.  Don’t do this because you are trying to achieve fame and fortune.  By the time you are done dealing with the business aspect of the music and all of the challenges that come with it, it will make you give up if you are in it for the wrong reason.  If you keep it about the music and touching the fans, then it won’t matter what level of success you get, it will fulfill you.  I’m a strong believer that if you want success, you must have patience and persistence.  The people who persevere will be successful on some level.

Q: Is there anything else you’d like to let our readers know about?

I’m a screen actor as well, here’s my imdb link http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2768416/?ref_=fn_al_nm_3 .  I’m also an author, I will be releasing a poetry book later this year and a self help book next year.  I’m also finishing up a romantic comedy novel.  I write and produce for other artists as well.  All of my songs, I wrote the lyrics and the melody too.

Editor’s Note: Steve Ryan has the energy, creativeness and talent to enjoy a successful career in the music industry. We’re looking forward to Steve’s newest album with a great deal of anticipation at Song Revelation. Definitely one to watch!
