Q: If you could use a tagline of less than 20 words to describe your music and who you are what would it be?

I’m an old soul with a heavy heart who’s got a crush on falling in love. My music reflects that with rhymes and melody.

That was 24 words. Whoops.

Q: What is your musical background?

I’m a classically trained pianist (thanks, Mrs. Whitby!) I’ve never taken voice lessons, but I’ve been singing since I was 4 and writing since I was 15.

Q: How have the last 12 months been for you?

BUSY and wonderful. I’m currently working on three separate projects: full length solo album, full-length producer electro/pop album, and an EP with the band Thick as Thieves. I’ve got a lot of music coming out in the near future and I’m super excited to share it!

Q: Who inspires you musically?

I’ve recently really enjoyed The Head and the Heart, but Ryan Adams, Tegan & Sara, and Bon Iver are my go to’s.

Q: Which modern day artists do you look up to?

I really look up to Lissie. She’s so incredibly talented. I got to see her live last year, and I was just blown away by how amazing she sounded! Also, I found out we both went to Musicians Institute, which is pretty tight.

Q: Is there anyone you would like to collaborate or gig with?

Lissie! And Tegan & Sara. And Ryan Adams. And Bon Iver.

Q: What songs are you listening to at the moment?

The Head and The Heart’s whole album is incredible. Go buy it. Really. So worth it! I also really like Bon Iver’s new album.

Q: What is your creative process for creating a track?

A lot of my favorite melodies/lyric ideas come to me at inopportune times (such as at restaurants, driving, shower, etc.) so I’ve been known to randomly run to the restroom or outside and sing into my phone. I probably look like a crazy person, but it’s a risk I’m willing to take in order to not lose a song! J

Q: What’s more important, melody or lyrics?

I’m a sucker for solid lyrics, but a beautiful melody can make the simplest phrases poetry.

Q: Where are you based?

I’m currently living in LA, but I’m from Tulsa, OK.

Q: What’s it like being where you’re from?

It’s great. Tulsa is such an awesome city. I’d love to live there again someday!

Q: What are you currently working on?

A full-length solo album, full-length producer electro album, and an EP with the band Thick as Thieves

Q: What’s been the highlight of your career to date?

Two of my songs being played on One Tree Hill!

Q: What are you hoping to achieve in over the next 12 months?

I’ll hopefully be able to do a tour with my solo stuff well as with Thick as Thieves. I’d also love to get some more TV placements with my solo stuff.

Q: Do you have any gigs or shows that you’d like to tell us about?

I’ll have an album release show in late March, but I haven’t nailed down a date/location yet.

Q: What do you do to relax?

Drink a glass of red wine and listen to Fleetwood Mac’s album  “Rumours” on vinyl. It’s a magical combination.

Q: Where would your favourite holiday (vacation) be and why?

Crested Butte, CO because it’s tucked away in the mountains and is the cutest little town in America. I’ve been going there my whole life and it’s just absolutely wonderful.

Q: If you could give a little piece of advice for new or aspiring musicians what would it be?

Don’t write a song with the intention of it being a hit, write it because it’s pressing against your heart and you’ve got to get it out. Also, surround yourself with people who inspire you creatively and support you.

Q: Is there anything else you’d like to let our readers know about?

Just that I really want a golden retriever puppy but I know that I’m not responsible enough. Sigh.

Editor’s Note: As soon as we heard Sunday Lane’s heartfelt lyrics and unique, yet commercial, sound we were totally hooked. We can’t wait until Sunday’s new material is released at Song Revelation.
