Endway are an Indie-Rock band consisting of Kevin McHugh (Guitar, Vocals), Dennis Walsh (Bass, Vocals), Andrea Belfiore (Drums), Morgan Dorr (Lead Vocals, Guitar) and Brian Lempert (Keys, Vocals). Despite Endway currently being extremely busy completing their latest EP, we were delighted when they agreed to complete a feature artist interview for Song Revelation. Read the full interview below to discover, amongst other things, who they would ideally like to gig with, their current career highlights and who inspires them musically.
Q: If you could use a tagline of less than 20 words to describe your music and who you are what would it be?
An arena sounding, over the top without being too cheesy, baby Matchbox 20 meets U2 on a bed of Maroon 5
Q: What is your musical background?
My father Mr. Dorr was a bass player in a dope Reggae band Loose Caboose, they became friendly with the great Bob Marley and went to Jamaica to record an album. Needless to say wordly music was always playing in my house outside of Boston. We all grew up listening to Weezer, Bob Marley, the police, Green Day, and especially QUEEN.
Q: How was 2010 for you?
2010 was one of those years that just explodes, we met our manager at Lippman Ent. Andrew at Tainted Blue productions, everything has culminated, and now we’re working on a new EP, so very exciting.
Q: Who inspires you musically?
A lot of times musicians on the street, interesting youtube videos. Lately Fleet Foxes but now everyone is catching on, so I don’t think I like them anymore…just kidding.
Q: Which modern day artists do you look up to?
I like that Robert Plant and Alison Krauss made a record, I love the new surge of folky tunes, and fun dance songs. Katy Perry ” Baby Your’e a Firework” I like Katy!
Q: Is there anyone you would like to collaborate or gig with?
We would love to play with Aerosmith. Are they still together? Would love to collaborate with Journey, or tower of Power who make some ridiculous Rocky 5 type epic pump you up, go for a 2 hour jog type tunes.
Q: What songs are on your ipod at the moment?
From Beyonce’s Sweet Dreams to Muse to Doves to random voice notes I come up with all the time. My iPod could literally not be put on shuffle at a party, I suck.
Q: What is your creative process for creating a track?
Any piece of literature or a bitchy girl or a crappy feeling… I tend to get really inspired to write music late at night. I just want to share my feelings and hear how others feel in their lives. Thats the full circle!!
Q: What’s more important, melody or lyrics?
Melody hits you first, then the lyrics stick with you.
Q: Where are you based?
Me and Drea are in NYC the boys are in boston, makes for wild times!!
Q: What’s it like being where you’re from?
Boston slowed down for me a point in my life, NYC for another year or so. Then back to the Bean.
Q: What are you currently working on?
OUR NEWWW EP!!!!
Q: What’s been the highlight of your career to date?
Singing opening night in place of Seal at Fenway park home of the Boston Red Sox. So many other highlights…. Like when Brian my keyboard player showed 3 hours late and said “Ooooo something happened” (he never even took his time to think of a good excuse!)
Q: What are you hoping to achieve in 2011?
Q: Do you have any gigs or shows that you’d like to tell us about?
Yes absolutely, you can always check show dates at www.endway.com
we honestly hope to meet everyone new!! we take our time getting to know people, life is about experience!!!
Q: What do you do to relax?
I have a really hard time relaxing. Well actually I just watched the movie Tron. It was sick!!!
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to let our readers know about?
Yes, we’re shooting a music video for Gimme Gimme this weekend with MTV!!!!
STAY TUNED FOR THE PREMIER!!
Editor’s Note: Endway already have enjoyed a great deal of success, from their music appearing in the MTV show The Hills to playing at the Red Sox stadium, but at Song Revelation we believe that their new EP could bring them even more success in 2011 and beyond. Definitely one to watch!
