SEVENTRIBE are a hardcore metal band from Västerås in Sweden and agreed to complete a really detailed and intriguing interview for Song Revelation. Read the full interview below to find out about their cosmopolitan musical influences, their recording session in the Cosmos recording studios in Stockholm and why its a great idea to go to a SEVENTRIBE gig!
Q: Who are you called?
SEVENTRIBE – A conglomerate of totally different idiots embodying the seven sins. However, we are eightmembers; all of the sins have to be projected onto someone. So we take turns to be the lucky one…
Lil’ Mike – Drums
Mike Thaison – Percussion/Wierdo
Recarrdo – Bass
Johnny Vitale – Vocals
Ormfittan – Guitar
Kid Bondage – Guitar
ManMan – Guitar
Juan Fatale – Vocals.
Q: If you could classify your music in a genre or a number of genres what would it be?
Q: If you could use a tagline of less than 20 words to describe your music and who you are what would it be?
“A Shaved Polar Bear on Crack, Gone Haywire With a Kingsize Bulldozer – Multiplied By Eight”
Q: What is your musical background?
Back in 1999 two of the bands in Västerås, Sweden were about to come to an end; BMC Spleen and Ladystick. Both bands had been around for some years, BMC Spleen being the major Hardcore-Metal crew in town, and Ladystick hailing from a couple of Rapcore collaborations (for instance, ‘Supreme’ from the Swedish HipHop crew LoopTroop has his origins in one of those early constellations). Parts of Ladystick reached a progress border and wanted to push the envelope, dropping half of its members, at the same time as BMC Spleen came to split up under somewhat messy conditions with bonds brutally cut and long term friendships was heavily strained. Half of BMC Spleen continued under the same name, the rest teamed up with the remains of Ladystick.
SEVENTRIBE was formed in the end of 1999 and early 2000 a band contest in town was conquered which created a solid platform to build a totally crazy and outrageous creation upon. In this fuse, all of the frustrations and anger fuelled the new constellation to write a bunch of very aggressive material as well as develop the beginning of what you can see live today on a SEVENTRIBE show; a very graphic expression for your inner feelings, be it Love or Hate.
Q: How was 2010 for you?
This is actually the year where SEVENTRIBE finally breaks through and gets some real recognition by the industry. 10 years after winning the first contest, and some several hundreds gigs later, SEVENTRIBE entered the highly prestigious nation wide rock competition “Released Live & Unsigned”. Out of some 300 entries SEVENTRIBE came out on top with unanimous decision by the judges and the crowd, as well as a raw knock out on stage. This opened the doors into the swedish music industry, but also made SEVENTRIBE a official Jägermeister band as well as cranking up the gig frequency.
Q: Who or what inspires you?
Life. Anyone or anything that trigger any feeling inside you. SEVENTRIBE is all about sublime, channeling all controversial feelings and impulses into a loud and visual impact. May it be; your awesome relation with a good friend – loving and caring family that supports you thru thick and thin – your deepest dirty thoughts about your partner, either sexual or hidden despise – your relation to your boss, same there, sexual or despise – when you clench your fists behind your back watching your kid having an outbreak at the movies – when your parents just don’t understand and you just want to set the whole house on fire .When life is unfair and takes away someone you love…
Again, things that stir up your feelings in either direction. But as far as musical inspiration… well it could be any type of genre, artist, song or performance. Is it good, then we can learn something from that. Is it terrible and disgusting, well, there is equally as much to learn from that.
Q: Which modern day artists do you look up to?
SEVENTRIBE respects a lot of artists. Too many to list here. But we can easily say that the eight different members all have different musical references. The genre spectrum spans across Classical – Soul – RnB – HipHop – Pop -Dance – Techno – Trance – House – Electro – Dubstep – Rock – Hardcore – Metal – Deathcore to name a few. SEVENTRIBE is truly openminded and can find appreciation in just about any type of artist work. Not just music.
Q: Is there anyone you would like to collaborate or gig with?
Jenna Jameson – She stands for what any ambitious person should be able to recognise. Be smart, set goals and reach them, use your passion as a guide for your profession, believe in yourself, find a market and make it yours, forget the norm, follow your dreams.

Q: What is your creative process for creating a track?
Again it’s about channeling a impression or a feeling. May it be thru a bass line, a guitar riff, a vocal expression, a rhythmic line – but also visual impressions or your general mood for the day. Everything we create has to go thru the live trial; does this work live, not only musically but also visually. If we can, it is destined to be a SEVENTRIBE mosh engine.
We strongly believe that we have a 50/50 relationship with our songs, it has to be great song wise and it has to be experienced live.
Q: What’s more important, melody or lyrics?
Neither one. It has to be as an Anderson Silva facekick, straight to your head, torso, tits and nuts all at the same time.
Q: Where are you based?
Västerås, a 130,000 citizen town one hour from Stockholm, capital of Sweden.
Q: What’s it like being where you’re from?
Honestly. It’s small. It’s boring. And it doesn’t appreciate musical talent. It’s more of a industrial/sports town. On top of this the weather is not great. If you are lucky you get 2 months of real summer, the rest is either winter or something in between.. rain and grey skies. The winter spans over eight months and sometimes brings down the temperature to -25-30°C (-13-22°F). Still, the geographical features hold no possibilities for winter sports, accept ice skating.. pretty frustrating. I guess things like these adds to the generally hostile mood both community wise and people wise. And it also brings flavor to our music, this might be the only positive outcome of a climate that most often forces you to stay inside and make what you can of the situation. In our case; make hard and furious metal tracks.
Q: What are you currently working on?
We are currently finishing the recording of a single track called ‘Dream Me’. It is both one of the prizes that we won in Released Live & Unsigned, and a tribute song made for our late friend Malin Tolf who passed away May 1 2010 only 28 years old. The track was recorded in Cosmos Studios in Stockholm, a pro studio where international artists have made recordings, such as: ABBA, Axwell, Beyoncé, Brainpool, Cat Stevens, Jennifer Lopez, Joey Tempest, Korn, Lady Gaga, Mando Diao, Melanie C, Natasha Beddingfield, Rhianna, Roxette, Tanya Stevens….. to name a few. The track is gonna be distributed along with Sweden Rock Magazine to all of their 18,000 subscribers. Parallel to this we are working on a full length album.
Q: What’s been the highlight of your career to date?
We consider every time we get the chance to meet our beloved fans, and give them a dose of our lives in their faces, a highlight.
Otherwise it has to be winning the Released Live & Unsigned competition. The prize consisted of; A single contract on Supernova Records (www.supernovarecords.com) recorded in Cosmos Studios (www.cosmos.se) which will be produced by Jägermeister (www.jagermeister.com) and distributed with Sweden Rock Magazine (www.swedenrockmagazine.com).
Also Seventribe will be performing on the Zeppelin Stage at the Sweden Rock Festival 2011 (www.swedenrock.com), the whole band will be equipped with wireless systems from AKG in courtesy of Crank It Up (www.crankitup.se). And of course, SEVENTRIBE is officially sponsored by Jägermeister.
Q: What are you hoping to achieve in 2011?
The big breakthrough in Sweden and parts of Europe. Hopefully get a start on a international spread as well.
Q: Do you have any gigs or shows that you’d like to tell us about?
The Sweden Rock Festival (www.swedenrock.com) is the biggest thing booked as for now. But more BIG things are in the pipe so be sure to check out www.seventribe.com for more show dates.
Q: What do you do to relax?
Eat, drink, have sex. At the same time preferably.
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to let our readers know about?
This will sound like a cliché (because it’s often misused by a lot of people), but you have to see this LIVE. We hardly charge anyone for some mp3 tracks on the web or a CD. These are meant for you to dream yourself back to one of our live shows you’ve been to. We will turn everything you thought you knew about hard music or feelings upside down. SEVENTRIBE is an experience you have to try, it’s hard to describe. It’s like describing when you first were allowed to try out whatever that you wanted to try out with your partner or escort…
Editor’s Note: After listening to SEVENTRIBE’s tracks you really feel that you want to visit one of their gigs to feel their energy, enthusiasm and musical talent live!
