Artist Interview – Saimons

The Saimons are a popular indie band from Buenos Aires in Argentina. Although native Spanish speakers, they write and sing pretty much all of their songs in English. Despite being really busy writing their new album, they happily completed an interview for Song Revelation. Read the full interview below where they discuss their performance on the CBS television channel in America, their new album and their musical inspirations.

Q: Who are you called?


Q: If you could use a tagline of less than 20 words to describe your music and who you are what would it be?
Friendship, inspiration, culture, dream, rock, pop, alternative, indie.


Q: What is your musical background?
We all grew up listening to all kinds of music! And started of playing our instruments around when we were 12.


Q: How was 2010 for you?
It was a great year for us. We performed in a couple of the most important venues in Argentina and also in radio stations and national TV.


Q: Who inspires you musically?
We  have a pretty wide range of musical influences. But If we have to choose a couple of bands, they would be:
The Beatles, The Strokes, The Killers, The Cure, Kings of Leon, Pearl Jam, The Velvet Underground, Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, etc.

Q: Which modern day artists do you look up to?
The Strokes, Kings of Leon, The Killers, MGMT, Julian Casablancas, John Mayer, Coldplay, Phoenix, Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, The Kooks, The Virgins.


Q: Is there anyone you would like to collaborate or gig with?
Yes, a lot of artists! Especially the ones we look up too!


Q: What songs are on your ipod at the moment?
The bands we named before plus: David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, The Who, The Doors, Queen, Mumford and Sons, Yeasayer, Devendra & Little Joy.


Q: What is your creative process for creating a track?
Usually first we do the harmony and melodies come out together! And we usually work and the lyrics at the end.

Q: What’s more important, melody or lyrics?
Both are important but in music we believe melody is more important.


Q: Where are you based?
In Buenos Aires, Argentina.


Q: What’s it like being where you’re from?
It´s weird to live in a Spanish spoken country and sing in English but it´s not a problem. We also had the opportunity of touring on the USA.


Q: What are you currently working on?
We are currently working on our second album! We are composing and plan on recording later on this year.


Q: What’s been the highlight of your career to date?
Touring on the US and Performing on TV at CBS 12 in the States.


Q: What are you hoping to achieve in 2011?
We are composing our second album which we´ll be recording on September approximately. We wish to get more people to check enjoy and feel connected with our music.


Q: Do you have any gigs or shows that you’d like to tell us about?
Not yet but once the album’s out please check out our website for more information!

Q: What do you do to relax?
Listen to music and a couple of drinks.


Q: Is there anything else you’d like to let our readers know about?
People can buy our first album on Itunes, CD Baby and Amazon. Also we are planning our third USA Tour with gigs in all over the country! Hope we can make it soon!
