LA native Jack Littman kindly agreed to give Song Revelation an interview. Jack is already a successful performing musician, supporting Robert Francis all over the USA! Read on to discover how Jack writes his songs and also what its actually like to be brought up in Los Angeles, the city of dreams.
Q: If you could classify your music in a genre or a number of genres what would it be?
Folk, Soul, Motown, Electro
Q: If you could use a tagline of less than 20 words to describe your music and who you are what would it be?
Born and raised in Los Angeles, CA, Jack Littman is a young troubadour with an old soul. Able to spin convincing tails of longing, regret, deceit, rejection, and vindication, his life experiences appear to come from a longer trail than he could seemingly have traversed in his 21 years.
Q: What is your musical background?
Taught myself guitar at the age of 13, started writing songs from there.
Q: How was 2010 for you?
Very good. Was fortunate enough to tour around the US opening up for Atlantic Recording Artist Robert Francis
Q: Who inspires you musically?
Marvin Gaye, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Elvis Presely, Roy Orbison
Q: Which modern day artists do you look up to?
Beck, Ray Lamontagne, Damien Rice
Q: Is there anyone you would like to collaborate or gig with?
Would LOVE to tour with Ray Lamontagne, David Gray, Bob Dylan, Damien Rice
Q: What songs are on your ipod at the moment?
Quite a lot. I’ve been listening to Ray Charles a lot lately.
Q: What is your creative process for creating a track?
Something impacts me in the real, or imaginary world. I then write about it, then I spend sometimes months perfecting the song.
Q: What’s more important, melody or lyrics?
Depends on the song. I think the music should always be your “base” in order for a song to work. The music needs to feel right..
Q: Where are you based?
Q: What’s it like being where you’re from?
can be very disconnecting, and sometimes very uplifting. It’s a city of broken dreams and the dreamers who dream them…
Q: What are you currently working on?
Promoting my current mixtape thats just been released. I’m spreading it like wild fire!
Q: What’s been the highlight of your career to date?
Opening up for Robert Francis all across the country. I respect Robert as a wonderfully talented and pure artist.
Q: What are you hoping to achieve in 2011?
A record deal, and perhaps some touring overseas in the latter part of the year.
Q: Do you have any gigs or shows that you’d like to tell us about?
I’ll be performing in San Francisco at THE UNION ROOM February 25 and Hotel Cafe February 27. I’ll also be performing two dates at the SXSW music festival in Austin, Texas.
Q: What do you do to relax?
I try not to relax much these days. My mind is focused on making music and awakening my true spirit. It takes work!
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to let our readers know about?
